Weapons[]

Hunting Revolver[]

A powerful revolver chambered in .357 magnum meant for hunting large game. Not as accurate as a rifle and kicks like a mule, but smaller, lighter and just as powerful. However, the question remains: six shots or just five?

Summary []

The Hunting Revolver is a weapon that can be found in hunting shacks and such. It is less common than the rifle, is slightly less accurate, and has less range. However, it is 2.4 kilograms lighter, sports the same damage, and can be fired from the hip. It will load rounds one by one or will load all 6 rounds at once if the magazine is empty. It uses .357 magnum rounds which are .01 kilos heavier than .303 rounds used by the rifle, but are otherwise very similar. The ammo can be founds in many of the same locations as .303 rifle rounds, albiet slightly rarer.

Stats[]

Weight: 1.6 Kg (3.5 lbs)

The description is a reference to the film Dirty Harry (1971). In the film, the titular character uses a S&W Model 29 (which is chambered in the even more powerful .44 Magnum), and asks a criminal if he thinks he fired "six shots, or just five" and if he thinks he has one remaining.

Makeshift Carbine[]

A short, light, compact rifle made from scrap metal in a furnace. Lighter than a traditional rifle, but the makeshift rifling leads to lower accuracy and it only holds one shot. Make it count

Summary[]

The makeshift carbine is an alternative to the Hunting Rifle which can be made using 8 scrap metal, 2 reclaimed wood, 2 cloth, 1 leather, .2 liters of oil, a hammer, push-drill, and forge. While it has the same damage as the rifle, it has only 75% of the range, meaning you will need to get closer to your target. In addition, it is less reliable and will jam more easily. Lastly, it cannot use attachments unlike the hunting rifle.

Tools & Items[]

Machete/Kukri[]

A classic farming tool and occasionally a weapon. Very versatile and popular amongst farmers, soldiers, and survivalists alike.

Summary[]

Fills the role of a hunting knife and hatchet in one (though slightly less effective). Also helps when defending against wolves, allowing you to do more damage to them when in a struggle. Rarer than either but much lighter than both combined. Can be found at a few locations, but not many.

Metal Lighter[]

A fancy, engraved metal lighter, likely owned by someone of some level of status, or maybe just by a chain smoker with a big wallet. Either way, it provides decent light and is good for lighting small fires.

Summary[]

A tool that combines both the lantern and the match into one. Can also be used to light fires, but requires either tinder or accelerant to be effective. Can be used to light cigarettes as well. Similar to the lantern, it loses durability over time and requires fuel (though it loses fuel at a faster rate and can only store 0.4 liters worth).

Stats[]

Weight: 0.25 Kg (0.55 lbs)

Repaired using: Scrap Metal

Ocassionally corpses

There is also a special gold-plated variant that can be found at the plane crash site. This version is statistically similar, but degrades at a slightly slower pace.

Crude Knife[]

A crude handmade tool which has been around for millenia. Made from a sharp piece of stone (such as flint), metal, or bone wrapped in cloth or rope at the base to provide a makeshift handle. Much less durable than a conventional knife, but relatively light and easy to make.

Summary[]

On the most extreme end of makeshift items is the Crude Knife. Depending on what is available, this can be made from either Bone Shards, Stone Shards, Scrap Metal, or Flint and Cloth, taking around 100 minutes to make and requiring a stone or other solid object. Compared to the Hunting Knife, it takes around twice as long to perform actions with and it has only around 20% of the durability. Furthermore, it has a chance to break randomly (similar to how the Hunting Rifle has a chance to jam), which increases proportionally to the remaining durability of the item. Meant to be a cheap stopgap for the early game if a normal hunting knife cannot be found. Each material has slight statistical differences, with Bone Knives having the least durability, followed by Stone, Flint, and finally, Scrap metal.

Rifle Scope[]

An old 3.5x sniper's scope for a rifle. A bit bulky, but should provide a clearer picture on target and some more zoom. Should make lining up a shot on target a bit easier.

Summary[]

The rifle scope is an attachment that can be equipped on the Hunting Rifle and Hunting Revolver. It has a 3.5x magnification and provides a clearer sight picture, as well as slightly increasing accuracy and range while shooting.

Stats[]

Weight: 0.2 Kg

Durability: 0.5% Per day

Repaired using: 1 Scrap Metal

Locations[]

Anywhere a hunting rifle can be found (slightly rarer than the rifle itself however)

Bear Trap[]

A trap meant for use against large game or predators. Has a pressure plate in the middle to put bait on and lure in predators and trap predators. Might even be powerful enough to kill a wolf.

Summary[]

Working similarly to the snare, the bear trap can be used to trap wolves and bears, though it requires use of bait. Trapping a wolf will cause it to bleed and be trapped for 2 hours, and it will likely die shortly after escape. Bears, however, will break out within 75 minutes and will not die from the bleed (though they will be very badly injured and will usually be killable with only 1 rifle round or a couple of arrows). They can be found at hunting areas and barns, and can be crafted at the forge using 3 scrap metal and 1 cured gut. Unlike snares, however, predators can actually be led into them without requiring the use of bait Also, while trapping a wolf will immobilize it, trapping a bear will only slow it down. However, trapping a bear will also cause it to go into a panic, regardless of its state before activating the trap

Push-Drill[]

Otherwise known as a Persian Drill, this simple tool is useful for drilling through hard materials like rock and ice. Might even be able to engrave rifling into soft metal.

Summary[]

As the name implies, the Push-Drill is a manual drill used for tunnelling through objects. The spiral surface also makes it useful in the manufacture of rifled barrels, provide the metal is soft enough. The push-drill can be used for cutting through ice, including from within a building (such as a mobile home) provided it is on top of ice or another fresh water source. It can also be used on rock in mines. This crude mining can produce Coal, Flint (can be used to craft a Crude Knife), or stones.

Clothing[]

Wolfskin Hood[]

A hood made from the hides of wolves. A bit big and heavy, but very warm and durable. Also makes you look like a total badass and shows wolves in their place below you on the food chain.

Summary[]

The Wolfskin hood is a type of hat. It provides more warmth and protection than other hats, but is also heavier. It also cannot be worn over certain other hats (such as the motorcycle helmet). It requires 2 cured wolf pelts and 3 cured gut to make and can be repaired with one cured wolf pelt. It must be crafted.

Motorcycle Helmet[]

A helmet used for motorsporting. It is heavy, uncommon, clumsy, and not very warm, but also increadibly durable. It also provides some decent wind protection.

Summary[]

The motorcycle helmet is a type of hat. It cannot be worn over many other hats like the Wool Toque and Wolfskin Hood. It doesn't provide much in the way of warmth and is rather heavy but does give unequalled protection in its class, as well as decent wind protection. Uniquely, it and the snow goggles allow the player to see more clearly in thick snowstorms. It is relatively rare, and can be found occasionally in houses and buildings, and more commonly in cars and garages.

Reinforced Wolfskin Hood[]

The ultimate in makeshift protection, a wolfskin hood combined with a motorcycling helmet. Provides a ton of protection from both animal attacks and the elements, but weighs it too

Summary[]

A wolfskin hood combined with a motorcycle helmet, the reinforced wolfskin hood is very heavy but also the ultimate head protection item. It provides more protection than either the Wolfskin Hood or the Motorcycle Helmet, and offers the warmth protection as the former. It must be crafted at a workbench with  tools, scrap metal, and obviously both the wolfskin hood and motorcycle helmet.

Snow Goggles[]

A pair of goggles meant for skiing or working in the snow. They provide virtually no protection but will probably help you see better in the thick of a snow storm.

Summary[]

The snow goggles are an accessory. They provide no warmth bonus and negledgable wind protection, but allow the player to see more easily in snow storms. They are relatively common at locations such as houses and hunting stands.

Bisonhide Vest[]

A sturdy vest made from bison hide. Light, warm, and durable, it should provide plenty of protection for a managable weight

Summary[]

An underlayer crafted from the hide of a Bison, this vest is durable and thin. As such, it provides good protection for a fraction of the weight of other underlayers. Unfortunately, the cost of this is that it doesn't provide nearly as much wind or physical protection, so it must be worn with a sturdy outter layer

Consumeables []

Cigarettes[]

Tobacco and paper soaked in chemicals rolled into a paper-wrapped cylinder. Not very healthy for your lungs but may help to calm the nerves and warm you up a bit. They also burn pretty well.

Summary[]

Cigarettes are a consumeable item that comes in packs of 12 (similar to wood matches). They require either a lighter or a match to consume and once used will offer the user a "calm" bonus. This bonus decreases the rate at which the player freezes (similar to hot foods) and also slightly decrease the rate of calorie consumption. In addition, they increase the player's shooting accuracy by the equivelant of 1 hunting level. However, cigarettes increase the rate at which water is consumed and when many are consumed in a very short period of time they have the chance to leave the affliction "scarred throat" which rapidly drains the thirst bar (though not nearly as quickly as dysentery) and prevents the regeneration of condition. It can be cured using either 2 painkillers and 2 antibiotics or one rose hip tea and one reishi tea, as well as 6 hours of sleep. They last for around 20 minutes and can also be used as tinder in amounts of 6 (6 cigarettes = 1 tinder). They are found at most locations where people would be (houses, shops, cars, worksites, etc.). When the player is smoking a cigarette and they have nothing equipped in their hands, they will shown with a cigarette in between their fingers, occassionally lifting it up to their face to take a puff.

Animals[]

Sasquach []

A lone, mythic creature, only able to be taken down by the most skilled of hunters. They say he stalks the wilderness, only challanging those whom he finds most worthy.

Summary[]

A secret animal, can only spawn on the two highest difficulties, and only once at least 90% of locations have been discovered. The likeliness for him to spawn will be increased with every new locaiton discovered after that, until it will be almost certain at 100% of locations discovered, though he only does so in snow storms and at least 2 kilometers away from the player. His behavior is similar to that of the Old Bear but less aggressive and typically keeps his distance. He is much larger and tougher than other animals and does not bleed, rather taking as many as 4-5 headshots or 10 bodyshots with a rifle to take him down with the rifle. Once he is able to spawn he will do so in areas where other animals are already present and only once per game. If the sasquach cannot reach the player then he will throw large rocks at him, which will knock the player down and damage his condition, with a small chance of causing an affliction such as broken wrists. Once killed he drops 60 Kg of "mysterious meat" which must be cooked to be consumed, degrades very slowly (taking up to 36 days to fully degrade from 100% to 1%) and has 2050 calories per kilogram when cooked, though also takes substantially longer to cook (up to 3 hours for a full kilogram of meat). His presence will be announced in the region by a loud roar, which can be heard from anywhere within the region, even indoors.

Stats[]

Behavior: Hostile

Rarity: Extremely rare

Locations[]

Outdoors, non-transition regions once 90%-100% of areas have been discovered

Wood Bison[]

The largest terrestrial animal in North America, this huge beast typically migrates in packs and is very scarce, though the males are often solitary. Though usually passive, they may become hostile if approached. One should take extreme caution when approaching them, as they can do heavy damage. Their meat isn't as fatty as that of cattle, but still provides ample protein and their hides are thick, warm, and highly water-resistant.

Summary[]

Wood bison are an uncommon animal who can be found either through the "Bison Migration" world event or as solitary creatures in fields. Signs that a bison may be near are large tracts of exposed dirt where the snow is either noticably thinner or no longer present. This usually means that a solitary bison is present. Solitary bison will be avoided by lone wolves, though occasionally they may be attacked by groups of them. If they are attacked by a wolf, they will usually be able to fend off the attacker. Lone bison will scare off most smaller animals, but will ignore bears. If they come into contact with a moose, the two may clash. This clash will usually kill the moose instantly, but the bison may bleed out if it is hit in the side. Bison packs, on the other hand, will go unmolested

Hunting[]

Bison are sturdy creatures. Though their health is similar to that of brown bears, their head is much less vulnerable and they will take longer to bleed out. Their behavior is similar to that of moose, so tactics when hunting them are similar. If a bison charges a player, the player will suffer from broken ribs, sprained ankle, and possibly a new condition called collapsed lung. When killed, an adult bison will drop around 40-60kg of meat, 1 pelt, and 16 gut. A young bison will only drop around 20 kilos of meat, 1 pelt, and 6-8 gut, however.

Drops[]

Bison meat is similar to black bear meat, but offers 1050 calories per kilo instead. Bison will drop 2 hide, which can be used to make several different outfits.

Stats[]

Behavior: Neutral

Rarity: Rare

Mechanics[]

Location-Based Frostbite[]

Instead of having just a core temperature, certain extremedies such as the hands and feet will also have their own temperature. This temperature is only partly affected by the core temperature, but to compensate only takes effect in severe conditions. If improperly protected, the extremidies may suffer from frostbite. In hands, this will slow interaction times significantly (increasing depending on the severity of frostbite) while in the feet it will make movement more difficult and possibly lead to the player having a chance to trip while running. If the frostbite becomes too severe, infection may develope, which, should it go untreated, may lead to gangrene (only on Stalker and Interloper), requiring the amputation of a finger or toe. This will permenantly harm the player's interaction and movement respectively.

If not gloves are available, then holding a match or other heat source (like a torch) will slow the effects of frostbite. For the feet, frostbite's effects increase while walking in snow, but are significantly less severe when walking on more solid surfaces (road, rock, floors, etc.). Similar to hypothermia, frostbite may be countered by use of a fire, but unlike hypothermia, simply remaining in semi-warm conditions will have only a limited effect.

Events[]

Bison Migration[]

During a bison migration event, local wildlife will flee the area. Bears will enter their caves and wolves will usually form packs and shadow the herd. Lone wolves will avoid contact with the player unless provoked, and deer, rabbits, and moose will flee the area. The herd will move through the region through to neighboring regions before disappearing.

Bison will travel in small groups within this formation, ranging anywere from 2 (1 mother and her child) to 5 (mother, father, 2 children, 1 other adult female). Packs of wolves may attempt to tackle young bison in smaller groups, but unless there are no or few adults nearby, they will usually be fought off.

If the player approaches any of these young bison, the others in their group will charge. As such, it is recommended that players stay inside when this event occurs. If one wishes to hunt bison during this period it is recommended to pick off straglers. The bison will group very closely together if they hear a gunshot or are otherwise attacked. This can make it difficult to track the bleeding bison, especially if they move to another area before they die

Each herd should take no more than 2 days to pass through a region, after which wildlife will return to normal. Immediately after the bison leave, there will be an increased spawn rate for deer, rabbits, and wolves. One can tell that a bison migration is occuring because animals will be fleeing from it, ignoring the player in the process. Even if one does not see the animals themselves fleeing, they will see their tracks.

Balance/Gameplay Changes[]

Item Buffs[]

Buff Rabbitskin Mittens so that they are competitive with gauntlets. This could be achieved by increasing the protection they provide and decreasing their weight to 0.75 Kg

Allow refrigerators and freezers to provide a food decay rate decrease for meats and other foods (though not for clothing)

Reduce birch bark weight and cat tail head weight to 0.03 to give them an advantage over the more common tinder plugs  Add a "liner" glove slot. W/ it, certain gloves such as liners, driving gloves, and fleece mittens (mittens may only be used if the overlayer is not a fingered glove such as Gauntlets) may be worn underneath larger, bulkier gloves such as Rabitskin Mittens or Ski Gloves
