The Long Dark Wiki

Too Greedily, too Deep is an achievement in The Long Dark.

Guide[]

This achievement is easiest to unlock when playing on Pilgrim.

The player must survive within the Langston Mine for 25 days straight without leaving once. Doing so will require a large amount of stockpiled food and water and a dedicated place to sleep with a Bedroll. Water can be produced inside the mine in a few locations where a Fire Barrel can be found, but food must be brought inside the mine to survive. Consider using the Hibernation method to speed up time and save food.

Using the elevator shaft to visit a lower section of the mine or going topside will reset achievement progress, so consider going to the lowest level and staying put.

This achievement is much harder (though not impossible) to unlock on Stalker, Interloper, and Misery, as these difficulties increase the survivor's Needs drain and also gives the survivor Cabin Fever after 5 days, making it impossible to pass time or sleep once afflicted. You can choose to do any action to forward time (e.g. tear clothes and cancel), however since you are unable to sleep, you will slowly lose health. To counter this, consider bringing caffeine or health buff consumables. Alternatively, you can choose the Settled Mind feat when starting your run to avoid Cabin Fever altogether.

Trivia[]

  • This achievement's name is a reference to the lore surrounding the Langston Mining Corporation and Rüdiger's Machine in the Zone of Contamination.
    • It is also an Easter Egg reference to the Lord of the Rings (another being the Spelunker's Lantern description).
    • The achievement name is derived from this quote: Saruman: "Moria... You fear to go into those mines. The dwarves delved too greedily and too deep. You know what they awoke in the darkness of Khazad-dum... shadow and flame."
