Severe Lacerations is a physical Injury acquired from a Cougar Struggle.

Affliction[]

You have sustained multiple deep slashing cuts from the Cougar's claws. Your Condition and Stamina are compromised, and you are at greater risk of Infection and Blood Loss until you are healed.
In-game description

Severe Lacerations has a 90% chance to be applied to the survivor after a Cougar Struggle and lasts for 72 hours, requiring no treatment to cure.

  • Maximum Condition is reduced by 50%.
  • Maximum Stamina is reduced by 50%.
  • Generates 2-3 Blood Loss and Infection Risk along with the Affliction.
  • The survivor's claw wounds periodically open up again over time, generating new instances of Blood Loss and Infection Risk (which require fresh Bandages and Antiseptic). Both Afflictions are generated every 12 hours after first receiving Severe Lacerations, with 5 sets occurring until the Affliction fully heals.
    • A notification that Blood Loss has been applied will not appear, but the screen will briefly turn red (as if suffering from a Sprain) and the survivor's Condition will begin to rapidly drop. Keep an eye on your Condition bar when passing time and be prepared to cancel your activity.

Time Acceleration Warning[]

Note: Time Accelerating tasks (Sleep, Pass Time, Crafting, Harvesting, etc) are extremely dangerous while afflicted with Severe Lacerations at the 12 hour mark, as new instances of Blood Loss can appear and rapidly kill the survivor (e.g. while asleep). As Blood Loss leads to a 30% loss of Condition per hour spent with it, sleeping in intervals higher than one hour at a time on any difficulty above Voyager is not recommended as you do not wake up from Condition loss and as you have a chance to "instantly" die.

This fate can easily be avoided by maintaining an eye on the remaining Recovery Time. As Blood Loss generation always occurs every 12 hours, (60, 48, 36, 24, 12 hour marks) making it is quite easy to diagnose whether sleeping or passing time at the moment is a wise idea.
