This is it, the beginning of the end of the Predux Wintermute. 1 side mission will unlock for this mission, Hank's Hatch, so complete it if you wish. Head to the Unnamed Pond to find an active fire to activate Hank's Hatch. Otherwise, go to the Carter Hydro Dam.
Carter Hydro Dam
- Get into the Dam at night, when the Aurora is in the sky.
Wait inside the trailers near the Staging Area fence until night falls and an Aurora is in the sky. There's no way to trigger one, so you'll have to have enough supplies to wait for one to appear. Sleep through the day and wait until night, then when the Aurora is out, head past the gate to the Dam.
A campfire burns inside the Staging Area, with a strange man sitting beside it. Mackenzie approaches and a 3rd person cutscene begins. The man calls himself Methuselah, and tells Mackenzie that the world is changing, and that he has seen this Quest Apocalypses before. Mackenzie asks if this is about religion or the lights in the sky, but Methuselah says it is not religion, but redemption, and that the lights are a sign of a reckoning because now everyone will be tested to see how far they will go to survive. Mackenzie say he's no hero, only a man looking for someone. Methuselah then wishes Mackenzie luck, and offers him a seat to for the pilot to warm himself by the fire.
Methuselah cannot be talked to anymore after the cutscene ends, but his fire is infinite and can be used. When you are ready, head inside to face the Dam.
- Find your way through the Carter Dam.
Head straight to the Control Room and use the keypad to open the door. Walk to the back of the Control Room and turn the Switch Box on. Then exit the room to the adjacent room housing the elevator, and ride it down. It will get stuck, and will require a prybar to open (a corpse inside the elevator has one if you aren't carrying one).
- Explore the guts of the Dam. Get through before daylight.
Despite what the game says, you can actually wait out the Aurora with no consequences from here on out. From the generator floor, head up to the upper walkways and to a Rope Climbing section to bypass the burning metal and live wires (even with the aurora gone, an invisible wall blocks your path, so use the rope). Head to the Lower Dam and continue until you find a door. It is also locked with a keypad, but Mackenzie doesn't have the code for this door, so head forward into the lower generator room, using switch boxes to turn off the live wires in the hallway. Walk across the room and take the stairs upstairs until you find another door that leads to the outside....until something hits you.
Mackenzie will then wake up tied to a chair, with a man covered in blood and wearing an orange jumpsuit placing Astrid's Hardcase on the floor before him. The man repeatedly punches Mackenzie, demanding to know what's in the case while trying to intimidate him. After several failed attempts, the man then tells Mackenzie that he knows from his ID that he is a pilot, and presumes that he has a plane stashed somewhere, but Mackenzie continues to show resistance ("My plane wouldn't do you any good"). The convict then threatens Mackenzie, saying that the pilot wouldn't act this way if he say what happened to the last person the he met, referring to her as "she." This get's Mackenzie's attention, with the convict only remarking, "Don't worry, you'll be with her soon" and then striking Mackenzie in the side of the head with the back side of a Hatchet, ending the Episode.

Differences from Redux Episode 2
Several plot points and locations have been replaced/altered since the Redux re-release of Episode 2:
Plot Points and Gameplay Changes
- Mackenzie can re-enter the Trapper's Homestead and continue talking to Jeremiah to unlock any remaining Trust content. In the Redux, Mackenzie will refuse to re-enter the cabin, saying "Nah, I'm done with the old man."
- The encounter with Methuselah is the first time Mackenzie has met him in the Predux storyline. In Redux, this is the fourth and last time he will meet him.
- Methuselah's Campfire says it lasts for 4 hours despite being infinite. This would be corrected in the Redux, now displaying an infinity (∞) symbol.
- Jeremiah gives Mackenzie a code to enter the Dam control room, but in the Redux Mackenzie somehow knows the code (or guesses).
- Mathis and Methuselah are both is voiced by Gord Marriott in Predux. They would each receive a new separate voice actor in Redux, with Mathis being voiced by Elias Toufexis and Methuselah being voiced by Richard Newman.
- Mathis' coat sleeves and waist are covered in blood. This detail was removed in the Redux.
Game History
- Added to game.
- UPDATE 17 December 2018 (Update):
- Removed from the game as part of the Redux edition.
