A Recycled Can is a tool that players used primarily for melting snow, boiling water, and cooking canned goods and drinks.

Overview[]

The player will always start the game with one recycled can in the inventory, even on Interloper. Additional Recycled Cans are obtained by the player after consuming a canned good. However, if the player smashes open a can, they will not receive a Recycled Can once the food is consumed. Additionally, Recycled Cans occasionally spawn in houses with kitchens or in various other locations.

A Recycled Can will decrease the amount of time required for canned food to cook by 50%, compared to the time needed to cook indirectly near the Fire. This time can be decreased by an additional 20% if the player uses a Cooking Pot instead of a Recycled Can. A Cooking Skillet can decrease cooking times even more than a Recycled can as well.

A Recycled Can can melt or boil up to 0.5 liters (0.13 gallons) of snow or water at a time. A Cooking Pot has four times the capacity (2L / 0.52 gallons) and melts/boils 20% faster.

A Recycled Can will degrade by 10% if its contents are burned or boiled dry. The Recycled Can will not degrade in any other circumstances.

Trivia[]

  • All Fires have the same cooking, boiling, and melting times for food and drink items used with a Recycled Can. The cooking speed is not dependent on the temperature of the fire.
  • Using a Recycled Can will not decrease the amount of time required to cook canned food, compared to cooking the food in its own can.
  • You can only use two Recycled Cans, Cooking Pots/Skillets at a time on most cooking surfaces, but stoves have six slots.
  • Recycled Cans make excellent target dummies for shooting practice, as they will be knocked back from the impact of a bullet/arrow.
  • On Interloper, the Recycled Can is the only item you start with, besides some basic clothing.
