Reclaimed Wood is a fuel and crafting material in The Long Dark.

Overview[]

Reclaimed Wood is a relatively common resource harvested from furniture, or found near settlements, especially destroyed buildings. Reclaimed Wood may be used as fuel for campfires, and crafting snares. Using Reclaimed Wood to start a campfire decreases the probability of it lighting by 5%.

Reclaimed wood has a burning duration of 30 minutes.

Tips[]

  • Reclaimed wood can be found inside and near buildings, fishing huts, or by harvesting crates, shelves, tables, chairs and etc. with a Heavy Hammer, Improvised Knife, or Improvised Hatchet. Small wooden items may be broken down with bare hands, expending more calories and taking more time however.
  • Reclaimed Wood and Cedar Firewood are efficient sources of fuel per weight, at 120 min/kg. Since pieces of Reclaimed Wood are smaller than Cedar Firewood, they give more control of a fire's duration, allowing more efficient fuel without waste.
  • A single piece of Reclaimed Wood will heat a canned food or drink without it burning, as the fire will extinguish 10-20 minutes after the food or drink is done.

Update history[]

  • UPDATE 30 October 2014 (Update):
    • Every interior location now has a maximum inventory of Reclaimed Wood that can be Foraged.
  • UPDATE 31 July 2014 (Update):
    • Fuel Sources: Increased the heating radius of Hardwood, Softwood, and Reclaimed Wood fuel types.
  • HOTFIX 9 July 2014 (Update):
    • It is now possible to forage for Wood indoors. Indoor foraging only produces Reclaimed Wood.
    • Tuned all Fuel sources. Hardwood, Softwood, and Reclaimed wood all now have reduced burn times, but are also lighter to carry. Wood Foraging has been tuned to be more generous. Net result is Fuel is easier to find and carry, but you need more of it.
  • UPDATE 12 June 2014 (Update):
    • Added to game.
