The Long Dark Wiki

Spoiler Warning: This page may contain spoilers from the story of The Long Dark.

Patient 7 is the codename given to one of the patients treated by the Project Medical Officer after the incident with Rüdiger's Machine.

Overview[]

Presumably one of the mine workers in Langston Mine, Patient 7 is a side character from the Tales from the Far Territory storyline in Survival Mode.

Signal Void[]

After turning on the machine, several people involved or close to the project, including The Foreman, The Security Chief, and the mine workers, started developing symptoms of mental deterioration. Because of that, Dr. Rüdiger had a medical officer flown in to evaluate the patients.

Patient 7 was one of the patients evaluated and being treated by the Medical Officer, and the one being recorded in the Interview Transcrips made by the Doctor.

In the transcripts, we can see the Medical Officer asking Patient 7 to recall various instances from memories, involving a river, a beach, and a claustrophobic room.

  •  Interview Transcript 4 : We can read the report of Patient 7's memory, recalling a summer day with a group of people in the edge of a river. He mentions how he entered the river and underestimated the depth of the body of water, resulting in him struggling and reaching for a stone, holding himself above the water line. At the end, we can read that he doesn't remember if it was a sunny or a rainy day, something that he mentions at the beginning of the transcript, showing the dementia-like symptoms caused by the machine.
  •  Interview Transcript 12 : Patient 7 recalls a dark, square room made of a smooth "steel or glass" material. He notices a pit in the middle of the room, recalling it being made of bricks. At the end, he mentions when "it" shows up, being a floating, moving shape, calling it "a shadow". At the end, we can see he enters in a slightly paranoic episode, saying "Is it me? My face? Goddammit."
  •  Interview Transcript 14 : In the third transcript, we can see Patient 7 recalling a "grey" day in a really deep, still beach, with no waves or wind around. He mentions being alone, not understanding what was happening at the moment, probably being lost in the middle of the ocean getting easily distracted in the storytelling. At the end, he states that they "lost him... just a little kid."

Even with the efforts of the Doctor, we can witness the mental deterioration of Patient 7 as the sessions advance in number.

The whereabouts of Patient 7, or if he's even alive or dead, are unknown.

Trivia[]

  • We can infer that he's the patient being recorded in Interview Transcript 17, although it's unclear
  • As seen in the Transcripts, there's a high chance Patient 7 has a childhood trauma as a consequence of becoming lost in bodies of water like a river and beach when he was younger.
  • We can conclude that there were more patients, presumably more mine workers, that were being treated by the Project Medical Officer, but their sessions were probably lost, taken by the doctor, or simply not recorded by him, taking more interest in Patient 7's memories and mental deterioration.
