Paradise Lost (Predux) was the fourth and last mission of the Predux Episode 1: Do Not Go Gentle of the Wintermute story. It has since been replaced after the V1.47 Wintermute Redux version of the game, but is still playable to those that download versions V1.15, V1.30, or V1.37 of Steam version of The Long Dark by using the Time Capsule.

This episode has since been replaced by the current version of Paradise Lost.

Objectives

Find the climbing area on the outskirts of Milton.
Find the route that leads through the mountains.

Overview

This mission is a point of no return. Finish all side missions and exploration before continuing to Milton Park.

When you are done, take the Mountaineering Rope to the Rope Climbing section of Milton Park. Tie it and climb down, only for the rope to snap. You are now unable to return to Milton.

Continue traveling until you find another Rope Climb. If you are too tired to climb, a nearby Warm Cave can be rested in. Climb up the Rope Climb and then walk to a cave in the mountains and leave Milton behind. Pass through the cave to the other side and a 3rd person cutscene will play of a man being mauled by a bear. He pleads for Mackenzie to shoot it, and Mackenzie picks up a rifle and fires once, ending the episode.

Note that any items kept in this episode pass over to Episode 2.

Differences from Redux Episode 1

Several plot points and locations have been replaced/altered since the Redux re-release of Episode 1:

Plot Points and Gameplay Changes

Methuselah is not present after the fall.
The ending cutscene is in 3rd person. Redux version is first person.
Jeremiah is not wearing his Bearskin Coat, but the redux changes this to include him wearing his coat in the ending cutscene.
- Despite this, Jeremiah's Bearskin Coat is damaged and needs to be repaired in Episode 2 after the bear attack.
