Hypothermia is an affliction in The Long Dark, caused by exposure to the cold.
Overview[]
Hypothermia is the result of "Hypothermia Risk" reaching 100%, which is caused by Warmth being lowered to freezing (0%) for two consecutive hours (in-game) or by falling through weak ice. Once manifested Hypothermia doubles the Condition loss from freezing, from 20% to 40% loss per hour, and causes Fatigue to drain at double the normal rate.
Tips[]
- The treatment for Hypothermia and Hypothermia Risk is keeping Warmth above freezing until the affliction heals. Should the player start freezing while recovering from Hypothermia, the recovery time will reset.
- The time to recover from Hypothermia is based on the experience mode: 6 hours for Pilgrim, 12 for Voyageur, 18 for Stalker and 24 for Interloper. Remaining recovery time is shown on the Status menu.
- Hot food or drinks and campfires can help stay above freezing, even when outdoors.
- Freezing, even without Hypothermia, is by far the deadliest Need (Freezing: 20% Condition loss per hour (40% with Hypothermia), Thirst: 2% per hour, Hunger/Fatigue 1% per hour).
