The Long Dark Wiki

A crude Arrow hardened in a fire. Fragile, but simple to Craft. Only effective against small game.

Overview[]

A Fire Hardened Arrow is a craftable ammunition for the Survival Bow made from a Campfire. It's made from (5) sticks and (5) crow feathers, and provides experience for the Archery skill when landed on a living target.

Fire Hardened Arrows are effective at hunting small game, such as, Rabbit and Ptarmigan which they kill in one hit, and are easier to craft than Simple Arrows. However, Fire Hardened Arrows do not cause damage to large game, such as Deer, Wolves, Poisoned Wolves, Timberwolves, Cougars, Bear, Moose, and will break upon impact when hitting these larger targets.

Shots made while undetected which land near a predator will cause them to flee, and direct hits on charging Wolves can cause it to flee (75% chance); making Fire Hardened Arrows more effective than thrown Torches or Stones.

Wear[]

The total durability of fire hardened arrows is variable and depends on a material table to determine it's condition loss; with the hardness of the material and the angle at which the arrow impacts the target determining the amount of degradation received. After a hit takes the arrow's condition below 0% it will break and turn into a Broken Fire Hardened Arrow then fall to the ground where it may be retrieved and harvested for 1 Crow Feather.

Fire hardened arrows are unique in that they break instantly upon impact with all animals except rabbit and ptarmigan.

Arrow condition loss on Impact (Increased by perpendicular hits)[]

Material Snow Flesh Wood Stone/Metal

*Full condition fire hardened arrows may survive hard impacts.
