Hinterland has plans to release Episode 5 in mid 2025, and it will be free to all current owners of The Long Dark. It will take place in the mysterious Perseverance Mills and will complete the story of Mackenzie and Astrid, while also tying up any loose threads left within the story (including the conflict involving Mathis and his gang of Convicts, as well as the contents of Astrid's Hardcase, what caused the First Flare, and the message Mackenzie must carry to Atwood, "Wintermute").
Both Mackenzie and Astrid will be playable characters in the Episode.
