Start location | Community Hall |
The mission begins in Community Hall and is divided into two parts: Find and return three survivors, and stock the hall kitchen in preparation for a blizzard.
Returning survivors
There are three crash survivors in Pleasant Valley. To find a survivor, travel within the radius marked on the player's map. Once inside the radius, the player can shoot a flare into the sky with a Distress Pistol. A few seconds later, the survivor will shoot a flare into the sky, alerting the player to their location. If the survivor still cannot be found, a second flare can be fired and the survivor will respond.
Each survivor is found lying next to a campfire. This campfire will be an "infinity fire", meaning that it will never burn out. This can make it a useful place to spend the night or cook food.
Each survivor needs to be carried back to Community Hall. These survivors have the same mechanics as Gwen. For instance, they have condition (health) as well as warmth and hydration needs. Survivor condition will go down if they are attacked by timberwolves or if either of their needs are depleted. The player can address a survivor's warmth need by placing them near a fire or indoors, and can address their thirst need by using the "diagnose" interface to give potable water. The Survivor's condition will improve as long as their needs are met.
Known Bug
You can equip a pistol or marine flare while carrying a survivor on the PC version. Simply pick up the survivor, press the right mouse button to put them back down but instead of left clicking to do so, press your flare or gun hotkeys (1 or 2 respectively on the keyboard). It will select the first of that item in the list so if you want a marine flare be sure not to carry a standard red flare. If you equip a pistol you can fire and reload it while carrying. You can also equip a rifle but you won't be able to fire it unfortunately.
Stocking the kitchen
Inside the kitchen is a large cupboard, with a unique interface that shows the same list as the journal. Items placed in the cupboard will be noted in the progress towards the needed amount. Items can be added and removed from the cupboard at will until all of the needed quantities are inserted. At that point, it is no longer possible to add or remove items from the cupboard. Note, if extra quantities of a type of item are inside the cupboard at the time of completing the task, the player can no longer remove them. For that reason, it is wise to keep any extras outside the cupboard, either on the ground or in other cabinets.

Tips
- (x8) Antiseptic/Old man's beard dressing
- Antiseptic is a fairly common medical item, and can be found in first aid kits on the walls or shelves of many buildings.
- Old Man's Beard Lichen is quite numerous and can be found on trees throughout Pleasant Valley. They can be crafted into Old Man's Beard Wound Dressing quite easily, as they do not require a workbench to create.
- 5 Old Man's Beard Lichen can be found on a fallen tree and right next to it in the river just behind the Community Hall, another 5 are on top of a hill when going straight from the Community Hall to the fishing hut at Pensive Pond, 4 just to the left of the boulder, behind which is the 3rd bunker, and 4 more next to the river/ice crossing (1 on a branch facing away from the road) when following the road behind the church, netting you 6 easy old man's beard wound dressings, this coupled with on average 3-4 antiseptics in the town itself and 1 antiseptic in the 3rd bunker should be sufficient.
- (x16000) Calories from food or drink
- Processed foods can be scavenged from buildings and cars
- Completing the The Big One side mission will yield a 3750 calorie fish.
- A large quantity of MREs and canned food can be found inside Joplin's bunkers.
- Meat can be acquired by killing deer or timberwolves
- Nearly 7000 calories can be accounted for by using Airline Food, recovered during Fallen Star
- (x48) Hours of firewood or other fuel
- For burn times for various fuel types see Fire#Types_of_fuel
- On Capable Survivor, there is a hatchet present in the building with the Church Artifact and on Hardened there is one nest to a crate just outside the Pleasant Valley Outbuildings outdoors barn second correction: in hardened survivor difficulty (untested in other difficulties) a hatchet can be found in the run down building near the prisoners corpse. There is also a hatchet to be found on Three Strikes farmstead, in the open barn building, opposite side to Forest Talkers cache.
- Coal boxes are adjacent to most of the residential houses in Pleasant Valley and contain coal and tinder plugs. Each piece of coal contributes one hour of burntime.
- Several residential houses and the community garden in Thomson's Crossing contain crates which can be broken down by hand for reclaimed wood.
- Sticks and branches can be found scattered on the ground in certain areas.
- Cedar firewood and Fir firewood are found in most caves.
- Joplin's third bunker contains 10h of burntime of firelogs
- (x10) Bandages
- (x2.00) Litres of Kerosene
- Kerosene can be found as tins of lantern fuel, or in jerry cans. Accelerant is not kerosene.
- Large quantities of kerosene can be found in jerry cans in Joplin's bunkers. One jerry can is usually enough to satisfy the requirement.
- A jerry can is at Signal Hill
- Kerosene is harvested when cooking fish. Fish can be caught at Pensive Pond.
- (x8) Antibiotics/Prepared reishi
- Antibiotics can be scavenged from first aid kits, and are quite abundant and lightweight.
- Prepared reishi mushrooms can be crafted using reishi mushrooms found on tree stumps throughout the region.
- (x1) Distress pistol
- Several distress pistols can be found in Episode 3:
- In the Community Hall entryway following the start of the Coming Storm mission
- In a section of the downed airliner
- In Joplin's third bunker
- Several distress pistols can be found in Episode 3:
- (x4) Distress pistol shells
- Flare shells can be found at the aforementioned locations, as well as at Signal Hill and near crash survivors.
